Pyhrn-Priel panorama bike ride

Path number: R811/R311
Starting place: 4564 Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn
Destination: 4564 Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn

The round trip leads through the entire region. On low-traffic side roads, the Pyhrn-Priel Panorama takes you to unique places and unique natural landscapes. But beware: without electric support it needs strong calves!

This dream tour connects all nine villages in the Pyhrn-Priel region. Picturesque mountain panoramas, hilly terrain and short climbs accompanied by the river characterise this wonderful tour. The Pyhrn-Priel Panorama is connected by the Steyrtal Cycle Path (R8) and the Kalkalpen National Park Cycle Path (R31) and is signposted as a "variant" with the route numbers R811 and R311.

The tour starts at the Klaus reservoir, the gateway to the Pyhrn-Priel region.
Insider tip: There are pretty little bays on the banks where you can cool off. Before the old railway bridge, we turn off into the idyllic Brunnental valley with the village of Steyrling - a sleepy side valley where deer sometimes come right up to the front door in the evening. We continue along the Steyrtal cycle path towards St. Pankraz, where we turn right at the rest stop to the Steyr bridge and then left into the Stodertal valley. In Hinterstoder we recommend a visit to the Strumboding waterfall and the most beautiful place in Austria, the Schiederweiher. At the end of the valley is the Almgasthof Baumschlagerreith inn with the Steyr spring.
Please note that these places can only be visited on foot!

The return journey takes you through the village of Hinterstoder and finally along the country road to Vorderstoder - be sure to enjoy the breathtaking panorama with views of the Großer Priel and Spitzmauer! A detour to the Schafferteich natural bathing area offers another opportunity for a swim. We then continue in the direction of Roßleithen/Windischgarsten into the Garstnertal basin. If you need another refreshing dip, head to Gleinkersee and swim in the unspoilt mountain lake. Or you can visit the Pießling spring in Roßleithen, one of the largest karst springs in the Eastern Alps. The route continues to Spital am Pyhrn with its baroque collegiate church and the museum "Between Heaven and Earth - Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and the World of the 8000 Metre Peaks". Via Oberweng, at the foot of the Pyhrgas, you have a unique view of the Garstner Valley. Via Edlbach you finally reach Windischgarsten. Cycle along the Kalkalpen National Park cycle path (R31) via Rading along the Teichl to St. Pankraz. The last section of the Pyhrn-Priel Panorama leads back to the Klaus reservoir on low-traffic paths.
