The Salzkammergut Trophy gravel bike route is the ultimate challenge for gravel bikers every year during the legendary Salzkammergut Trophy in the Dachstein Salzkammergut. You can also embark on a gravel adventure between Hallstatt and Gosau on this training route during the bike season!
Lake Gosau, Lake Hallstatt, beautiful alpine landscapes, majestic glaciers,... This gravel bike route is full of highlights!
The highlight of the Salzkammergut Trophy Gravel Bike Training Route C
The Salzkammergut Trophy Gravel Bike Training Route is not only an adventure in terms of fitness, but also a dream in terms of scenery. Here you get the full Dachstein Salzkammergut. With the Hallstättersee, Hallstatt, the Waldbachstrub waterfalls, the Gosau alpine pastures and Lake Gosau including the Dachstein, it is the highlight tour par excellence in the Inner Salzkammergut.
The gravel bike route
Unlike the race, the training route does not take place in Obertraun, but in Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee. From Parkplatz Mitte, you first cycle through the village to the Goisern Süd exit. Here there is a cycle path or the road that takes you to Landgasthof "Zur Post". From there, the route continues below the Arikogel to Untersee, where it is not far to Lake Hallstatt is.
On the R2, the Ostuferradweg, you then finally cycle along Lake Hallstatt to Obertraun. You cycle briefly over a spectacular suspension bridge over the deepest part of Lake Hallstatt, before the first views of the World Heritage town of Hallstatt open up. The trail continues to Obertraun and the Strandbad. An ideal bathing spot during a summer tour. After the lido, you will also pass the official starting point of the Salzkammergut Trophy gravel competition
and then head towards Hallstatt. Since 2018, gravel bikers have been able to avoid the steep climb to the Salzberg and the training route also goes directly up into the Echerntal. Now you have around 1,000 metres of climbing in one go ahead of you. The route takes you uphill on an asphalt road through the Echern, past the Waldbachstrub, admiring the rugged Mountain Plassen, to the highest point of the tour - the Durchgang Alm.
After a relatively short ride, you ll reach the Rossalm, an ideal stop to replenish your reserves before a long descent to one of the most beautiful places in the Salzkammergut begins. You pass the Löckenmoos and then pass the Ebenalm and reach the highlight: the Gosausee including the majestic Dachstein glacier! There has to be time for a quick photo here!
After a short breather from the long and challenging descent, the gravel route leads along the Gosausee road to the sawmill and a small bridge. There you continue along the Gosaubachweg, away from the traffic. You will pass the valley station at the Hornspitz lift and the Dachsteinkönig, before travelling remotely through the rural part of Gosau am Dachstein. You could almost imagine a mountain pasture in the village, with many sheep, cows and horses lining the path. Continue through the so-called fairytale forest until you reach the fishing pond in Gosau.
Now the tarmac is calling! Follow the main road down to the Gosauzwang - the border between Bad Goisern/Gosau/Hallstatt. To the left, the main road leads to Bad Goisern. Here you cycle briefly along Lake Hallstatt before returning to the entrance to Bad Goisern Süd and finally to the starting point.
