With a gravel bike through the famous Ewige Wand

The Dachstein Salzkammergut is an ideal area for gravel biking, a dense network of cleared forest roads, fantastic views, crisp descents and cosy refreshment stops with hearty delicacies. The routes were designed by the route manager of the Salzkammergut Mountain Bike Trophy Bernhard Höll - a passionate and infected gravel biker for many years. He knows the advantages of gravel biking in the Dachstein Salzkammergut region and knows all the routes that are perfect for off-road racing bikes.

Parking options for the Gravel Bike Tour

But now let's get on the bike. You start at Parking Bad Goisern Mitte where you can park your car for free. Alternatively, there are car parks behind the HAND.WERK.HAUS. Salzkammergut, Bahnhof Bad Goisern or at Parkplatz Stampfl. All car parks where you can start the gravel bike tour through the Weißenbach within a minute

Gravel biking in Bad Goisern - the route

The tour starts at the Parkplatz Mitte car park in Bad Goisern. At the passage at the Tourism Office For the sake of the residents, please push your bike. It's worth making a short detour to the office, we are happy to answer any questions and provide insider tips for the tour!

The route then starts at Obere Marktstraße as far as the crossroads with the large lime tree. At the crossroads, turn right to the Protestant church, pass it and cross the Traunbrücke bridge, then turn right at Gästehaus Mörtlmühle past and then right again. Continue along the Traun for a few hundred metres to Health Centre Hanuschhof, past the Hanuschhof a quiet municipal road leads you into the Weißenbachtal valley.

Here you have the first opportunity to stop for a bite to eat at the Weissenbachwirt. If you decide to continue, there will be another opportunity later. After a few metres, you will reach the fork in the trail to the Chorinsky-Klause.

There are fewer ascents on the left but faster descents, and more ascents on the right but gentler descents. Choose what suits you best. In addition to the riding, there are some highlights such as the Chorinsky-Klause, a shady forest, the Brunntal Alm and views of the Ewige Wand. After this enjoyable loop, you will pass the Weißenbachwirt again. After a stop for refreshments or continuing your ride, the route takes you through the grounds of the Schlosserei Deubler and then along the cycle path to Lauffen an der Traun.

On to the Gravel Bike Tour Highlight Ewige Wand

In Lauffen, you ride over the Traunbrücke bridge and through the pilgrimage site to the district of Anzenau. After the Erlebnismuseum Anzenaumühle a forest road on the left leads up to the Ewige Wand! The Ewige Wand is a "shared trail", where mountain bikers, e-MTB bikers, hikers, climbers and many more can be found. However, as the view of Lake Hallstatt is so beautiful, Dachstein Krippenstein and Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee there is no reason to drive through here quickly. Caution is advised, especially in the two tunnels. After the Ewige Wand, the route continues through the forest to Rathlucken Hütte where another refreshment stop is also well worthwhile.

From the Rathlucken Hütte it's a short climb before the tour takes you rapidly down the Panoramastraße back into the valley to Bad Goisern. In the valley after the Moserwirt, turn left into Kirchengasse, through the passage at the tourist office (please push again) to the starting point at the Bad Goisern Mitte car park.
